Yashica's FX-3 series. The FX-3 Super 2000 is the final declination of a line of simple semi-automatic, manual focus cameras, released by Yashica between 1979 and 1986. Before the FX-3, Yashica had launched two FX models, but they don't belong to the same technical family - the early FXs were largely derived from cameras sold before.

Kyocera (which had acquired Yashica in 1983) released the FX-7 Super in 1985, exactly the same camera finished in chrome. In 1986 the FX-3 Super was in turn succeeded by the FX-3 Super 2000, available in black and chrome finishes, with a shutter speed range extended to 1/2000, and a wider ISO range from 25 - 3200 ISO instead of 12 - 1600.

T he Yashica FX-3 Super 2000, a fully manual exposure camera, introduced in 1986, was the final iteration of the FX-series 35mm SLR film cameras produced by Yashica, which includes the FX-1 (1975), FX-2 (1976), FX-3 (1979), FX-3 Super (1984), and FX-3 Super 2000. As for ease of use, the FX-3 is a pretty typical all-manual camera. The shutter dial is on the top plate next to the film advance lever, and the aperture control is on the lens. Shutter speeds go all the way up to 1/2000 second (hence the "Super 2000" designation). Metering information is presented via a trio of LEDs visible in the viewfinder.

Ultimately I found a Yashica FX-3 Super 2000 to use with it. The body is compact, and the meter runs off available alkaline batteries. The "2000" at the end of the name means it has a max shutter speed of 1/2000; it also meters up to ISO 3200. I like the way this first roll turned out. My only gripe is shots that I thought were in focus.

The FX-3, our subject here, marked a change from the heavy metal-bodied mechanical SLR with a cloth focal plane shutter to a lighter weight model with a mechanical metal focal plane shutter.
